Objectives: To investigate the relationship between anxiety and chronic pain. Subjects and methods: 246 inpatients weve treated in Neurology Department, Military Hospital 103 from 9/2018 to 4/2019 with manifestations of chronic pain (the duration of pain lasted more than three months up to the time of the study). Pain is evaluated according to location, property and levels. Anxiety disorders are diagnosed and caculated on a DASS 21 (The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale - 21 items) scale. Results: Among a total of 1,470 patients who were recruited, there were 500 patients with pain in which chronic pain patients accounted for 49.2% (246/500). Regarding an assessement of anxiety level, 97.1% were at mild and moderate level. Patients who were female with a long duration of pain > 1 year; ≥ 60 years old, combined with moderate and severe pain had more severe anxiety (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The female patients with a long period of pain, over 60 years of age, along with the level of moderate and severe pain were subjected to more severe anxiety disorder (p < 0.05).
