Diagnostic delay and associated factors in pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Ha Giang province from 2014 to 2018

Le Huu Thang, Nguyen Tung Linh, Nguyen Viet Nhung

Tóm tắt

Objectives: To determine diagnostic delay and associated factors in pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) patients in Ha Giang province from 2014 - 2018. Subjects and methods: A prospective, cross-sectional description with analysis study on 387 PTB patients managed at Ha Giang’s Tuberculosis Control Program with full medical records from 01/01/2014 - 31/12/2018. Interested variables were diagnostic delay in PTB (new actively detected, passively detected, and re-treated PTB), and associated factors (age, sex, occupation, ethnicity, and educational level). Results: The diagnostic delay of PTB patients was 6.41 ± 4.80 weeks (1 - 27 weeks). The diagnostic delay in actively detected new tuberculosis group (5.55 ± 4.06 weeks) and re-treated group (4.95 ± 3.16 weeks), were shorter than that in the group of new passively detected PTB (p < 0.05 - 0.01). Conclusions: Delay in diagnosis for PTB in Ha Giang relates to types of detection and several demographic factors. * Keywords: Pulmonary tuberculosis; Diagnostic delay; Ethnic minority; Associated factors.
